About Les Lourigan

image LES LOURIGAN is a self-taught artist who lives in Wethersfield. He is sixty-nine years old and has a long gray beard to prove it. (He thinks he looks a lot like Rodin.)

“I have fun at this art stuff and I want you to have fun with it, too. Play when you look at it. Look at it like a little kid. Don’t get serious and thoughtful about it, unless you want to and then have fun with THAT.

I invite you to enjoy yourself as you look at my work. It’s meant to be a joyful thing and not something that gives you a headache trying to figure out ‘what’s the artist trying to say?’

I have been asked over and over again, “What does it mean?”.
It means what you want it to mean.

What kind of art is it?  Cubist or abstract or la-di-da-ist ? I suppose if I had to call it anything it would have to be outsider art. I don’t have a college degree and haven’t had any formal training.

So that answers a couple of the most frequently asked questions. One other one is “How long does it take to draw or create one of your pieces?” My standard answer is to quote Alexander Calder. “When it’s time for lunch.”

I have been so fortunate in being able to create these pieces and that I have had such joy in their creation.

I hope you are joyful as you look at them and take away a happy experience.
